How to Keep Your Eyes Hydrated This WinterHave you been suffering from dry, itchy eyes this winter? This is a fairly common condition this time of year, and over-the-counter eye drops can only help so much. The good news is, you don’t have to live with dry eyes all winter long. There are a few simple steps you can take to keep your eyes hydrated and comfortable.

Drink Plenty of Water

If you want to prevent dry eyes, you can start by keeping your whole body hydrated! Make sure you’re drinking enough water every day, and try to avoid diuretics like coffee that can contribute to dehydration.

Take a Fish Oil Supplement

The omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil can help to improve the health of your tear glands and promote eye hydration. It might take a little while for you to notice a difference, but if you take a fish oil supplement every day it can have a number of beneficial effects on your eyes.

Use a Humidifier Inside

If the air in your home tends to get dry this time of year, consider keeping a humidifier in your bedroom or living room. These inexpensive appliances will return moisture to the air and prevent your skin and eyes from drying out.

Wear Your Sunglasses Outside

Nothing can dry out your eyes faster than a cold blast of wind. Fortunately, you can easily protect your eyes from winter winds with a pair of sunglasses. Plus, they’ll make it easier to see when snow reflects light from the sun and generates a bright glare. Just keep a good pair of sunglasses in your coat pocket so you’ll always be ready to go outside.
